ALR311 - Public Relations Study Tour: Communication Management in Asia

Any first year unit from the disciplines of public relations; media and communication or journalism (ALC101, ALC102, ALJ111, ALJ112, ALR103, ALW117), and permission from the unit chair to enrol.

Please note that study tour units may not run each year. Enrolment is always subject to a selection process and approval by the Unit Chair as places are limited. Therefore students should always identify another unit as an alternative to  a study tour  unit when planning their course or major.

This unit allows students to develop knowledge and skills through experiential learning in international situations. Students will undertake a class before departure on how PR is nationally distinct in Malaysia and Singapore – in so doing they will cover an introduction to each nation’s history in respect of PR. When in country students will participate in classes with Public Relations cohorts from host universities; visit and experience Public Relations as practiced in a variety of organisations: government; Not-For-Profit; commercial. Students will also engage with organisations who practice Public Relations in specialist area such as reputation management, branding and marketing communication, public affairs, and event management.


Essay and annotated bibliography 40% Critical essay preparing student with an understanding of PR practice and theory as applied in Malaysia and singapore 1600 words


Consultancy 40% Pre-trip consultation to brief Taylors cohort to coordinate a PR strategic plan with Malaysian client(1600 words equivalency)


Presentation 20% Equivalency 800 words. Post-trip assessment demonstrating acquired analytics capabilities for portfolio inclusion
