Content
This unit gives students the skills to design and create virtual characters for 3D animation, games and motion capture. Students will investigate the elements that make up creative character design and implement these in the building of their own characters. They will rig their character for a number of scenarios; keeping in mind it’s final use and the movements it will need to execute. Exercises in character rigging are completed over the course of the unit. These exercises will focus on the different requirements of rigging for motion capture and key frame animation, and on achieving excellent aesthetic results through understanding the interaction between character rigging strategies and the envisioned character movement. Focus will also be given to the aesthetic and conceptual assumptions that underpin character animation.
