Content

This unit is designed to support students to develop an understanding of the educational theory and issues that surround the use of contemporary media and technologies in the world of online teaching and learning.

Students will take on an inquiry learning approach to investigate various media and technologies, including social media, and critically evaluate their potential for use in online teaching and learning in education and training contexts.

Assessment

Report: Preparation of a report that draws on recent literature to discuss of issues related to online teaching and learning. The report will discuss the changing nature of learning associated with online environments, discuss examples of various media and technologies available for use in online learning environments and provide a critical analysis of the benefits and challenges associated with such use from the learner and the teacher’s perspective, 2500 words, 50%

 

Group presentation: Presentation of plan for a media rich online subject/course including the teaching approaches and strategies that support learning in an online world. This presentation will include a rationale for the choice of technologies and media that will be used in the online subject/course including support from the literature and experience to justify these selections, 2500 words or equivalent, 50%
