Content

The unit will develop students capacity to think strategically about an organisation, its industry and competitive position.  Linked with core units, this unit provides the opportunity to understand and apply the tools of strategy to identify priorities for management decision-making, and develop coherent and aligned operational and implementation plans that contribute to organisational goals in a dynamic and culturally diverse business environment. Financial, statistical and analytical skills will be used to evaluate alternative courses of action, resourcing issues and implications, and students will be required to explain and justify their decisions. Individually, and as a team, students will identify and reflect on their approach to management and how they perceive the logics of value creation in organisations.

Assessment

Assessment 1: External Environmental Analysis 25%, 2000 words

  • Students will undertake a thorough analysis of the external environment for a specified business organisation: 25% group of 5

Assessment 2: Simulation outcome, reflection and report 55%

  • Team ‘score’ arising out of the simulation – best overall market performance 10%
  • Individual Team assessment of group process 15%, 1000 words
  • Individual report for investment analyst on simulation company performance 30%,2000 words

Assessment 3: Presentation 20%

  • Presentation of company performance to group of ‘simulated’ investors
