Campus: 1 x 3 hour class per week, 1 x 1 hour seminar per week, 3 x 3 hour practicals per trimester. Students must attend and participate in compulsory activities for this unit at scheduled sessions on multiple days during the trimester.
Cloud (online): Learning experiences are via CloudDeakin. 3 x 3 hour practicals per trimester. Students must attend and participate in mandatory activities at the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus on the particular scheduled day during Week 8.
This unit introduces the material properties and fundamental concepts for design procedures of concrete structures and their behaviour during service life and according to the valid design codes. This includes introduction to the basic material properties and design parameters, flexural design of simply supported and continuous beams using Australian Design Code AS-3600, design of beams for shear and torsion, serviceability requirements, steel bond & development length, design of one-way slabs, design of two way slabs.
One design project 30%, one laboratory report 15%, final examination 55%. To be eligible to obtain a pass in this unit, students must achieve an overall mark of at least 40% in the examination. To be eligible to obtain a pass in this unit compulsory attendance is required by all students to unit-specific activities at Waurn Ponds (Geelong). These unit-specific activities may be undertaken either at scheduled sessions on multiple days during the trimester or during a single day of unit-specific activities scheduled during Week 8.
