SIT194 - Introduction to Mathematical Modelling
|Enrolment modes:||Trimester 2: Burwood (Melbourne), Waurn Ponds (Geelong), Cloud (online)|
|Incompatible with:||SQP122, SIT193|
4 x 1 hour class per week, 1 x 1 hour practical per week
Assumed knowledge: VCE Mathematical Methods 3 and 4 or equivalent, or SIT190 Introductory Mathematical Methods. You will need to access substantial learning resources and experiences in CloudDeakin (Deakin’s online learning environment). Compliance with the Standards in computing, connectivity and student capability are a condition on your enrolment.
This unit includes: functions and limits; derivatives and integrals of combinations of polynomials, exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions; sequences, series tests and power series; vectors, lines and planes; first order differential equations. Applications studied include approximations to solutions of equations and integrals and formulation of models to solve science and engineering problems.
Examination 60%, four assignments (10% each) 40%. To be eligible to obtain a pass in this unit, students must achieve a mark of at least 40% in the examination.
