Content

This unit will include coverage of the following topics: universal features of cells; diversity of genomes; origin of eukaryotic cells; the structure of DNA and chromosomes; DNA replication and gene expression; the cell membranes; membrane transport; intracellular compartments and protein sorting; vesicular trafficking; mitochondria and chloroplasts; cell communication; the cytoskeleton; the cell cycle and apotosis; cell division; cell junctions.

Assessment

Two tests (10% each) 20%, practical report 40%, examination 40%
