About the Associate Degree of Arts, Business and Sciences

The Associate Degree of Arts, Business and Sciences is a two year, full time (or part-time) equivalent course which will introduce school and non-school leavers to university study in a supported tertiary environment.

Deakin University is offering the Associate Degree to provide greater opportunities for students in rural and regional areas, for those who may not have met the prerequisites for their chosen university course, as well as providing an option for students who would prefer a more supported entry to tertiary study.

The Associate Degree gives you a pathway through to further education with a guaranteed place in a range of Deakin bachelor degrees* upon successful completion of the course with up to 18 months’ credit. It also offers you the chance to gain valuable workplace skills with the option of a mentored work placement in your final trimester. 

Flexible options to choose your specialty study area

The Associate Degree gives you flexibility. You can choose to study a range of subjects from, or specialise in, the areas of arts, business, education, health and environmental science (perfect if you are not yet sure of your career path) or alternatively if you already know where your interests lie, you can choose to specialise in that field.

Study location options

The Associate Degree is offered at Deakin's Warrnambool and Geelong Waurn Ponds Campuses, and in conjunction with our TAFE partners giving you the opportunity to commence your university studies close to home. Choose from:

Scholarships for 2012

A $1,000 Learning and Development Scholarship is offered at each of the seven locations for 2012. Applications are now open and close on 10th March 2012.

How to apply

Students wishing to study at the Warrnambool Campus, or through our partner TAFEs in Bairnsdale, Dandenong, Mornington Peninsula, Wangaratta, Portland or Swan Hill can apply via direct application (379 KB) to Deakin for the associate degree. Students applying for one of our TAFEs must also follow application procedures for the relevant Diploma course.

 * Students wanting to enter the Bachelor of Education (primary) must also undertake a STAT to ensure they meet the numeracy standards specified by the Victorian Institute of Teaching
