Future Students - International

After you accept your offer

Once you have accepted your offer and paid your tuition fees, you will need to carry out certain tasks before you can come to Australia as an international student.

Apply for a student visa

All international students who wish to study on-campus must apply for a student visa* to come to Australia.

Please note that part of the student visa conditions require you to have continuous Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of your stay in Australia.

Applying for a student visa

Once Deakin receives your payment of fees, you will be sent an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCOE). You will need the eCOE to apply for your student visa.

Apply for a student visa and enrol as soon as possible because your eCOE will expire five days after your course starts.

To apply for a student visa, you are required to:

Visa application forms are available from:

If your eCOE does expire, or if there are any other changes to your proposed enrolment, you will need to discuss your options by contacting Deakin International Admissions.

For more information regarding student visas, OSHC and other matters, please visit or contact the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).

*Entry to Australia on a student visa is only permitted for applicants undertaking a CRICOS registered on-campus course.

Organise your accommodation

You will need to organise your accommodation before you arrive. There are several types of accommodation you can choose from while studying in Australia:

  • On-campus accommodation
  • Off-campus accommodation
  • Homestay accommodation (for DUELI students only).

If you would like Deakin to organise temporary accommodation for you, complete the relevant section of the Arrival Services.

Book your flight

Book your flights early to secure a seat. You will need to arrive before the start of the International Registration and Enrolment Program, which all students must attend.

If you would like to be met at the airport on arrival, complete the relevant section of the Arrival Services. Upon your arrival, make your way to the Traveller's Information Desk at Melbourne Airport where you will be received by an Airport Reception Officer.

Before you leave

Before leaving your home country, make sure you have brought your:

  • passport and visa or evidence of e-visa
  • receipts of any payments made
  • additional forms of personal identification (e.g. driver's licence, birth certificate)
  • money (in Australian currency) plus relevant bank account details
  • original supporting documents that you may need to apply for credit for prior learning to meet the conditions listed on your offer letter
  • contact details of Deakin International.

You should also make adequate preparations and find out as much as you can about coming to Australia.
