Coming to Australia

In 2009 Deakin University looks forward to welcoming another group of international students from around 137 countries around the globe.

The University aims to make the transition to Deakin and life in Australia as smooth as possible. From the outset, our team of dedicated International Student Advisers (ISAs) are committed to making every student feel confident and comfortable with Deakin and our courses. As a new international student, it's often comforting to know there are many others on campus in a similar position. Our support programs for new students are centred on ensuring you meet and form friendships with your peers. ISAs strive to ensure students know how to access the benefits and support services mostly freely available to them, ranging from health, career, and accommodation advice to student associations and computer and library facilities.

As an international student, you will have the opportunity to explore new cultures, discover new experiences and make new friends. However, you will also have to be prepared to adapt to new customs and a new environment where everything may seem strange and unfamiliar at first.

One way of adapting to a new home quickly is by finding out as much as you can about the place beforehand. Making adequate preparations also allows you to adapt to your new environment more easily and could save you from having to deal with unnecessary inconveniences later.
