Future Students - International

Fees

Below is an outline of general information on fees (including tuition fees, additional fees, methods of payment and tuition fee and refund policies) for international students at Deakin.

Tuition fees

Deakin's course tuition fees are calculated on the units which you are enrolled for. This means that your fees are based on the units you choose to study in your course and not on any fixed course price.

Different units have different fees, which depend on how much each unit costs the University to provide. For example, units which require laboratories or special equipment may cost more than units which do not.

Indicative tuition fees

When you enrol, you are required to pay your course tuition fees upfront for your first semester. The amount you have to pay is based on your course indicative tuition fees. Indicative tuition fees are calculated based on historical enrolment patterns, and may differ from your actual tuition fees which are calculated according to which units you decide to study for your course.

Once you have decided on which units to study, your enrolment record will be credited or debited with the difference between what you already paid (i.e. indicative tuition fees) and your actual tuition fees.

Actual tuition fees

To calculate your actual tuition fees, you will need to know which units you will be taking for your course. Each unit is priced differently depending on which discipline cluster they belong to and your course (i.e. undergraduate, postgraduate coursework or postgraduate research).

For example, if you enrol in a Bachelor of Commerce course and choose six units from the Law cluster and two units from the Humanities cluster, your annual tuition fee would be 6 x (cost of a one-credit point unit from Law cluster) plus 2 x (cost of one-credit point unit from Humanities cluster).
