Why choose Deakin University?

There are a number of excellent reasons to study at Deakin University. Here are just a few of them…

A quality degree
A Deakin degree is a quality degree. Deakin University is an Australian Government-funded university. It is a member of Universities Australia and the Association of Commonwealth Universities. Its degrees are recognised by universities worldwide as well as by relevant Australian professional associations.

Multi award-winning Deakin
Deakin University’s reputation for excellent teaching and innovative course delivery has been recognised through many awards over the past few years, and it has achieved consistently high ratings for graduate satisfaction. Deakin has won the prestigious Australian University of the Year award twice – in 1995/1996 for our clever use of technology in education and in 1999/2000 for our partnerships with industry.

Innovative, responsive and relevant courses
Deakin maintains close links with government, leading corporations and professional associations to deliver some of the most significant professional programs in Australia and internationally. Through these alliances we stay in touch with industry, ensuring that our courses are relevant, practical and deliver the skills in demand, allowing our graduates to ‘hit the ground running’.

Gain real-world experience
Industry placements or internships are a feature of many Deakin courses, allowing you to form industry networks and gain valuable workplace experience before you graduate. Many of our courses have a built-in work component, which consolidates and gives relevance to your learning while you study. This means you can apply your skills and knowledge in the workplace, and enhance your employment prospects

A vibrant research culture
Deakin University has built an enviable international reputation for fostering outstanding research programs in areas relevant to our future. The focus on current and emerging world issues and trends places Deakin at the forefront of innovative research.

Great university, fantastic locations
Deakin is one of Australia’s largest universities, yet our campuses in Melbourne, Geelong and Warrnambool have a strong community feeling and provide a supportive study environment. You'll discover that it is easy to find your way around, make friends and get involved in campus activities. Apart from our range of innovative courses, our vibrant campuses and our outstanding services and facilities, students tell us that the thing they notice most about Deakin is that it is a supportive and friendly place to study. Our campuses have a lively environment with lots of room for you to socialise and relax. Our staff are knowledgeable, passionate and approachable, and our services include many clubs and societies that will see you expand your interests and make new friends.

You can enrol in a combined degree
At Deakin you can undertake a ‘combined’, or as they are sometimes described, a ‘double’, degree. Some examples include:

* the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Laws;
* the Bachelor of Commerce and the Bachelor of Laws;

You can start a professional degree straight from school
At Deakin we want to offer our programs to the widest possible range of qualified applicants. This means that most of our courses are available to students straight from school.

Outstanding student support
Deakin prides itself on being a student-centered University, dedicated to providing you with support, advice and encouragement in addition to the opportunity to obtain a quality Australian degree. From before you enrol, throughout your studies and beyond (through our Alumni program), we do everything we can to help you grow academically, socially and professionally.

Flexible learning
Deakin’s courses are flexible so you can choose specialist areas as you progress through your course and tailor your degree to match your career goals. You can study full-time or part-time, on or off campus, giving you plenty of options to choose how you structure your course. Our flexible approach means Deakin makes use of technology in the way we deliver our courses, including video streaming of lectures, podcasts and downloadable MP3s.

The latest facilities
Each of Deakin’s four campuses has excellent teaching and learning facilities. You are supported by 24-hour computer laboratories, with email and internet access for study purposes. Libraries on each campus provide the latest electronic information services for access to major Australian and international research collections. Facilities are constantly evolving, ensuring you have access to the latest equipment and industry-standard facilities, such as Deakin’s Motion.Lab, Australia’s most technologically advanced motion capture facility, at the Melbourne Campus at Burwood.

A broad education
As an undergraduate student, you can also enrol in Deakin’s Graduate Certificate of Arts and Sciences, which allows you to broaden your education to include an arts or science focus, in addition to your main degree. Deakin University also offers many combined courses, which means you can gain qualifications in two fields to give you an edge in the employment market and obtain two degrees in less time.
