How to apply

Entry for non-school leavers and mature-age students

Applying to study at Deakin is easy. All applicants for undergraduate courses: part time, full time, on and off campus, should apply through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) unless stated otherwise in the admissions guidelines.

Copies of the latest VTAC guides are available from most newsagencies each July and contain details on how to apply, Deakin University courses, prerequisites, selection modes and other important information.

You should lodge your application online at www.vtac.edu.au and timely applications close in late September each year. For more information on how to apply visit applications and enrolments.

Currently undertaking tertiary study

If you’re currently enrolled at a tertiary institution and wish to transfer to a course at Deakin you should apply via VTAC as a non-Year 12 applicant. For further information, including details about possible non school leaver additional entry requirements, please visit: www.vtac.edu.au or check out applications and enrolments.

The STAT test

As part of Deakin’s admission requirements some students may be required to sit a Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) which is administered by Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC).

You will need to sit the STAT if it is listed as a course requirement in the VTAC Guide or if it is a requirement when applying for special entry schemes.

There are two types of STAT tests: Multiple Choice and Written English. These are aptitude tests designed to assess a range of competencies commonly considered important for success in tertiary study.

To find out whether your course of study requires a STAT, please visit www.vtac.edu.au.

Planning your return to study

If you are an adult thinking of returning to study, rejoining the tertiary system can seem daunting. Back to the Books (2.3MB) is a publication that addresses the issues relevant to adults returning to study along with profiles on people who went 'Back to the Books' and their experiences. You might also want to download our 2009 VTAC application checklist (49 KB) which helps you to make the most out of your VTAC application.

Additional application forms

Depending on the course you wish to study, you may be required to fill out additional faculty specific application forms. Please refer to the VTAC guide or website as to whether any additional forms will need to be submitted and their due dates.
