PhD Scholarship - Identifying mechanisms causal in excess fat consumption

Centre for Physical Activity and Nutrition Research

Closing date: 31 December 2013 or earlier if position is filled

Obesity is a significant public health problem, yet some individuals are less susceptible to the development of obesity. High fat eating patterns are associated with overweight/obesity. Research conducted by the chief investigators has shown a reduced sensitivity to dietary fat (adaptation) which causes people to overconsume fat resulting in development of overweight and obesity.

The Scholarship is available with Deakin University’s Centre for Physical Activity and Nutrition Research (C-PAN).
C-PAN is a multi-disciplinary research centre recognised internationally for its expertise in physical activity and nutrition. This Scholarship is based at Deakin University’s Melbourne Burwood Campus. The scholarship is linked with the “Identifying why some people consume excess dietary fat - A twin study” project funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).

The project is supervised by Associate Professor Russell Keast and Professor Caryl Nowson from Deakin University Melbourne and Dr Conor Delahunty (CSIRO Adelaide).
