Deakin Accommodation (Medicine) Scholarships

If you are moving away from your rural and regional home to study medicine at Deakin in Geelong, you can apply for a Deakin Accommodation (Medicine) Scholarship to help with your living expenses.

Value

Total value $10,000 per year ($2,000 cash and $8,000 towards annual accommodation costs in University residences at the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus) with the option of the third and fourth years being made in cash.

Duration

Normal duration of the course, subject to satisfactory academic performance.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship you must be:

  • an Australian citizen, or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa
  • a commencing student enrolled full time in the Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery course in a Commonwealth supported place
  • able to show that you have moved from your rural and regional home location to study at Deakin's School of Medicine
  • able to demonstrate financial*, geographic or other disadvantage

* Financial disadvantage can be demonstrated by receipt of a Centrelink benefit or being able to show that they have a personal or family taxable income below the HECS-HELP repayment threshold depending on independence status.

Selection criteria

Your application will be assessed and ranked based on the information you provide in your application and supporting documentation.

Special conditions

Successful applicants are not permitted to hold another accommodation scholarship concurrently.

Supporting documentation

As part of the application process you will also be required to send supporting documentation to the Scholarships Office by 16 January 2013.
