The Helen and Geoff Handbury Accommodation Scholarships at the Deakin Medical School

Deakin aims to train highly skilled doctors who are motivated to pursue a career in rural or regional areas. If you are applying for the Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery program, the Helen and Geoff Handbury Accommodation Scholarships are available to assist you with your accommodation costs.

Value

Cash payment or $7,500 payment towards annual accommodation costs.

Duration

Four years, subject to satisfactory academic performance.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship you must be:

an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa
a commencing student enrolled in the Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery program in a Commonwealth Supported Place

Selection criteria

Selection is based on access and equity criteria and a commitment to rural or regional medical practice in the state of Victoria.

Special conditions

The following special conditions apply:

academic excellence once financial or other disadvantage has been established
you are required to move away from your home

Successful applicants are not permitted to hold the Helen and Geoff Handbury Accommodation Scholarship and a Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship concurrently.
