Accommodation scholarships

Eligibility

These scholarships are available to commencing full-time students who have moved from rural or regional locations to study on-campus at either the Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds, the Geelong Waterfront Campus or the Warrnambool Campus.

Applicants must be :

an Australian citizen, or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa;
undertaking an undergraduate course of study as a Commonwealth supported student.

Value

Up to $8000 towards annual accommodation costs in University residences at either Geelong or Warrnambool for the normal duration of the course.

Normal duration of the course and subject to academic performance.

Number per year

15 in total allocated to Geelong and Warrnambool.

Selection criteria

Academic merit based on ENTER score or Grade Point Average (GPA) based on previous higher education studies once rural and financial disadvantage have been established. You must also be:

a recipient of a Centrelink benefit or demonstrate that you have a personal or family taxable income below the Student Contribution (HECS) repayment threshold depending on independence status;
a full-time student who has a rural or regional home location; and
you are required to move away from your rural home location.

Special conditions

Successful applicants are not permitted to hold a Deakin Accommodation Scholarship and a Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship (CAS) or National Accommodation Scholarship (NAS) concurrently.
