Frequently asked questions about scholarships

The following are frequently asked questions about scholarships offered through Deakin University:

Will my scholarship pay the Student Services and Amenities Fee?

Scholarships do not cover the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF).  This fee will appear on your online invoice each Trimester/Semester along with your tuition fees.  If you are eligible to defer the SSAF and you wish to do so, you must complete the SA-HELP form online via StudentConnect, by providing your tax file number and accepting the conditions.  If you choose to pay the SSAF upfront, you must make payment by the due date specified on your invoice.  (Payment details will be available on your invoice.  Go to ‘Generate your invoice’ on StudentConnect).

Can I intermit my scholarship when I intermit my course?

The rules governing each of the scholarships offered by the Deakin Scholarships Office are different and not all scholarships can be intermitted. We recommend that you contact the Scholarships Office to confirm your circumstances.

For more information please refer to Intermitting your scholarship.

Do I still need to maintain eligibility now that I've been offered a scholarship?

All scholarship offers are conditional. You should read the terms outlined in your Letter of Offer for more details.

You need to advise the Deakin University Scholarships Office immediately if your circumstances change to ensure that you are still eligible to receive your scholarship.

Do I need to provide the Deakin University Scholarships Office with a Centrelink Authority Form to confirm my financial circumstances?

An income check is required for those scholarships that are offered on the basis of financial hardship. You do not need to provide Deakin University Scholarships Office with a Centrelink authority form. However if you don't, you will need to provide proof of your financial circumstances prior to each payment Trimester 1 and 2 Census Date.

If you have not previously provided an authority and would like to please complete the Centrelink Authority form and send it to:

I am thinking about changing my course enrolment, will this affect my scholarship?

Some scholarships are offered based on the course you are enrolled in. If you change your course this may affect your scholarship.

You should discuss your intentions with the Scholarships Office to confirm your circumstances and to ensure that you are still eligible to receive your scholarship.

What is a full-time study load?

A full-time study load is considered to be 3 credit points or more per trimester, unless there are exceptional circumstances, for example, a disability preventing you from taking on additional units. You are required to notify us immediately in writing if your circumstances change.

I am thinking about changing my enrolment status to be part-time, will this affect my scholarship?

Being enrolled as a full-time student, unless there are special circumstances, is a requirement for most scholarships.

You should discuss your intentions to change your enrolment status with the Scholarships Office to confirm your circumstances and to ensure that you are still eligible.

When will my scholarship be paid?

Scholarships are generally paid in two instalments - Trimester 1 and 2, unless otherwise stated in your Letter of Offer. These payments are made progressively within the 4 weeks following census date once enrolment and other eligibility conditions are confirmed.

Are scholarships paid in Trimester 3?

Generally scholarships are not payable in Trimester 3. You should refer to your Letter of Offer to see if your scholarship will be paid.

Can I ask for my scholarship to be paid on a specific date?

Whilst we appreciate the financial difficulties experienced by some students, the Scholarships Office is unable to arrange to pay specific scholarships on specific dates.

If you are having financial difficulty please contact Student Life.

If I have changed my bank account details, what do I need to do?
