A limited number of Deakin University Travel Grants are available to students who participate in approved Exchange programs. Each Travel Grant is worth between $500 and $1500, depending on the length of the Exchange program, the destination country, and any other grants, subsidies or scholarships received.
Students do not need to apply separately to be considered for a Travel Grant; submission of an Exchange Application Form will be sufficient. Completed application forms must be received by the first-round deadline in order to be eligible for consideration.
Travel Grants are awarded on the basis of academic merit, and students are eligible to receive the Deakin University Travel Grant only once.

Only students who are current recipients of a Deakin Equity and Access Scholarship or a Commonwealth Learning Scholarship are eligible to be considered for a Deakin University Equity Travel Grant.

Students who are recipients of the Deakin University Equity Travel Grants are not entitled to a Deakin Travel Grant or any additional scholarship subsidy.
University Mobility Asia Pacific (UMAP) subsidies of up to $5,000 are offered to undergraduate Exchange students who go to selected universities for a trimester- or year-long exchange. UMAP destinations change from year to year and a limited number is available each year.
Only students who are Australian citizens or who hold Australian Permanent Resident status are eligible to receive a UMAP subsidy. All eligible Exchange students applying to one of the universities with available UMAP subsidies are considered for a subsidy. The subsidies are allocated based on academic merit.
UMAP subsidies are intended to assist you with travel and living expenses during your Exchange. Deakin University receives this funding from the Australian Government, through the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST ).

Some countries offer scholarships and grants to visiting students. You can find out if a country offers financial contributions to Exchange students by visiting embassy or consulate websites.
Some of Deakin's partner universities offer scholarships, grants and subsidies to Deakin Exchange students.

The Commonwealth Government is offering OS-HELP loans of up to $5000 per trimester to students going on Exchange. The loans are available to any student who studies at an overseas university under an Exchange agreement and meets the eligibility criteria.
Students who go on a Short-term Study program may also be eligible for the OS-HELP loans. There is a 20 percent flat fee associated with the loan and re-payment is incorporated into the student's HECS debt.
Students wishing to apply for the loans must meet the following criteria:
No exceptions can be made to these criteria.
Students can receive the OS-HELP loan for no more than two trimesters.

Please note: Study Abroad students are not eligible for the OS-HELP loans.
If you are eligible for Austudy or Youth Allowance, your payments will continue while you are overseas on Exchange. Once you are accepted to the Exchange program, you should make an appointment with Centrelink to discuss your plans. The Education Abroad office will, on request, provide you with a letter to present to Centrelink.

In some countries it may be possible to work part-time while you are studying. We strongly recommend that you don't rely on finding work to support yourself and instead consider income from part-time work an extra bonus.
Many countries have strict limitations on work entitlements for visiting students. You may have to apply for a work visa and pay an application fee before you are allowed to work.
Contact your host country's embassy or consulate for further information on work entitlements.
This scholarship is only available to students currently enrolled in one of the following degrees - Bachelor of Public Health and Health Promotion (can be combined with either Bachelor of Nursing or Commerce) or Masters of Public Health.
In addition, students must have completed three trimesters of study (for undergraduate students), or one trimester of study (for postgraduate students). Eligible students must have a minimum grade average of 65% and not have failed any unit of study within their degree.
Deakin University receives this funding from the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). Each scholarship is worth A$10 000 to assist students with the costs associated with living and studying overseas.
These exciting new undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships are designed to develop capacity and resources for a global public health workforce, in particular for developing and maintaining Australia's educational relationship with Europe. The project theme is aligned to human rights and social inclusion. The generous $10 000 student scholarships will commence in 2009 and will be available each year until 2011. There is the opportunity for 10 Deakin University public health students to undertake a semester exchange in Europe by 2011.
Student selection will not be based purely on academic merit. Scholarship applications will require students to demonstrate a clear motivation to travel in line with public health interests. While all European study programs will be delivered in English, successful applicants will be expected to develop functional language and a cultural understanding of the host country and act as ambassadors for Deakin University.
