Trimester information for future postgraduate students

Deakin's new trimester system provides further flexibility and choice, and makes returning to study even easier.

Whether you're looking to advance or change you career, formalise your knowledge or simply continue learning, the trimester system could allow you to fast-track your study and achieve your dreams sooner*.

The move to a trimester system provides many advantages, including:

  • the option to complete a 12-unit masters degree in one calendar year by studying three trimesters per year
  • use Trimester 3 to catch up on units disrupted by personal commitments or other events
  • increased flexibility, a tighter curriculum and new choices for students
  • the choice of commencing a course in any of the three trimesters.

Each trimester has 12 weeks of teaching (including where possible a swot-vac/revision week) followed by an examination period.

The timetable for 2011/2012 is as follows:

Trimester 1 7 March - 3 June 2011
Trimester 2 11 July - 7 October 2011
Trimester 3 (summer) 14 November 2011 - 10 February 2012

To fast-track your study, you could enrol into all three trimesters. Alternatively, you have the choice of studying no more than a full-time load, and study only two of the three trimesters.
