Deakin Bonus Point Scheme

(also known as Deakin's Rural and Regional Bonus Scheme)

Deakin continues to strengthen our commitment to providing access to higher education through the launch of the Deakin Bonus Point Scheme.

The Deakin Bonus Point Scheme is an equity program intended to support students who do not have access to resources, opportunity and support networks available to other students.

Through the bonus scheme, you may be awarded up to 10 bonus points towards your ATAR aggregate* score based on:

  • your residential postcode
  • the postcode of your secondary school
  • your secondary school's participation in Deakin’s partnership programs

Applicants must also meet the below eligibility criteria:

  • A current year 12 student applying for entry into a bachelor or associate degree at Deakin University in 2013
  • Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens currently studying in Australia and permanent residents

This criteria has been developed in line with rural and regional and low socio-economic status postcodes as defined by the government as well as Deakin University school partnership programs.

How does it work?

  • Deakin pre determines the number of bonus points that are allocated to each category and the maximum number of points that can be awarded to an applicant.
  • The bonus points are applied automatically to Deakin bachelor and associate degree applicants through the Victorian Tertiary Admission Centre (VTAC) system, you do not need to apply for them.
  • Bonus points apply to those who have an aggregate to add the bonus points to (those who are claiming previous year 12 as their qualification)

How can I check if I'm eligible?

You can check whether you are eligible for the Deakin Bonus Point Scheme using either the postcode or secondary school search tools.
