Deakin's Gap Year Program

Are you thinking about taking a year off to work, travel or volunteer? Or are you considering a two-year break so you can qualify for Youth Allowance?

Whatever your reasons, Deakin's new two-year deferral option and Gap Year Program can help you make the most of your time away from study, whilst giving you the opportunity to kick start your career.

Available to undergraduate Australian students, Deakin's Gap Year Program enables you to stay connected with Deakin while you are on your gap year, by engaging with Deakin staff and fellow gap year students.

As part of Deakin's Gap Year Program you can:

• defer your studies for up to two years while you work, travel or volunteer
• study elective units Writing for Professional Practice (ALW117) and/or Introduction to University Study (ACS160) during your break, and earn credit towards your degree*
• attend Deakin events and lectures
• connect with other Deakin students
• access Deakin's libraries and career counselling services
• join the Deakin University Student Association (DUSA).

* Disclaimer: You may be eligible to defer the payment of elective subjects ALW117 and ACS160 while part of the Gap Year program under the HECS-HELP scheme. Enrolment in the eabove two subjects are subject to course requirements. As a Gap Year student you will have access to Deakin facilities, support services and will be treated as an enrolled Deakin student.
