Learn in advanced occupational therapy facilities
Our sophisticated Occupational Therapy Learning Hub at the Geelong Waterfront Campus enables our students to learn in a simulation facility equipped with the latest in assistive technology and equipment. The hub reflects real working conditions and allows students to gain first-hand experience with equipment used in professional occupational therapy settings.
Our learning hub is complete with simulated kitchen, bathroom and bedroom spaces, all installed with automated smart home technology. This assistive technology – including voice activated devices such as Alexa and Google Home, as well as more complex, fixed technologies – is important in our students’ training. Real-life simulations and assessments display how the technology can be used to assist clients in completing daily tasks and prepares students for their future careers.
Students and academics have access to the display of course material on two large projection screens at the front of the room in the group teaching zone, in addition to large TV displays positioned in each of the four simulation zones.
Student activities within defined sections of the space are able to be recorded with video and audio and uploaded for analysis so academics can assess students and provide feedback in real time. Students can then watch their footage to get a real idea of how they’re performing and how they can improve their strategies.
