Gender, families and reproductive health

Gender, families and reproductive health forms a broad area of work within CHASE, including specific projects in:

• gender issues
• families with young children
• reproductive health
• teenage pregnancy
• childlessness
• domestic violence and abuse: prevention and intervention

Specific projects in this area involve a mix of Honours students, PhD students and large scale funded studies.  Many are also carried out in partnership with agencies in the health and social welfare field.

Some of the large scale funded studies in this area are carried out in partnership with other parts of Deakin University and other universities:

• Associate Professor Julia Shelley is an investigator on the Australian Longitudinal Study of Health and Relationships (ALSHR), an NHMRC funded study carried out in partnership with La Trobe University, University of New South Wales, and University of Sydney. The ALSHR is based at La Trobe University.
  
  
• Professor Ann Taket is an investigator on WEAVE, a randomised controlled trial of a brief intervention in general practice to support women with relationship and emotional problems.  The WEAVE study is funded by the NHMRC based at the University of Melbourne and also involves investigators from La Trobe University, Victoria University, Murdoch Childrens Research Institute, University of Canberra and internationally University of London and Bristol University
  
  
• Professor Ann Taket and Associate Professor Karen Stagnitti are chief investigators on an ARC funded linkage project “Interagency collaborations supporting resilient students, families and schools in disadvantaged communities”.  The project leader is Professor Jill Blackmore in the Faculty of Arts and Education.  Industry partners are the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD), VicHealth and Community Connections.  For more details see the project website: http://www.deakin.edu.au/arts-ed/research/projects/resilience.php
