Partnership with Scope
Scope is a major disability service provider in Victoria. Scope offers therapy and psychology, accommodation, employment, inclusion and day services and supports, among others to people with disabilities and their families.
Scope also has a strong track record of research and has enjoyed an active partnership with Deakin University since 2007. This partnership currently includes:
• An adjust appointment of Dr Erin Wilson, Senior Lecturer, School of Social Development (and CHASE member) as Senior Research Fellow at Scope. This role includes conduct of joint research projects and participation in research unit planning and management meetings.
• Two Scope research staff holding honorary appointments as Research Fellows with the School of Psychology, Deakin University: Drs Nick Hagiliassis and Robert Campain.
• An ARC-Linkage grant to conduct national research on the ‘1 in 4 project’. This project aims to establish a national poll of people with a disability on issues of importance to them. Specifically the project focuses on establishing a widely accessible mode of surveying that is appropriate for people with a disability who may have diverse communication modes.
• A number of joint research activities including: an evaluation of outcomes from Person Centred Planning; an evaluation of outcomes from Early Childhood Intervention Services; the development of a range of outcomes measurement instruments; research into the organisational practices and enablers of inclusion, among others.
• Scope staff enrolled as PhD and Masters students in the School of Health and Social Development and conducting research of mutual interest. Topics in this arena include: Supported Decision Making; the Competencies of Support Workers; Communication Supports for People with Profound Intellectual Disability.
• Honours students of the School of Health and Social Development undertaking Honours level research on topics of interest to, or nominated by Scope.
• Recent publications of joint projects.
