The study will ask about a range of factors that may influence eating and physical activity behaviours, obesity and quality of life. Personal factors covered in the study include knowledge about healthy eating and physical activity, attitudes towards eating and activity and motivation to eat well and be active. Social factors measured include support for healthy eating and physical activity from family or friends, social networks and participation in community activities. Environmental factors measured in the study include access to recreational facilities, perception of the local neighbourhood and availability of public transport. The study will also ask about a range of other factors that may be important to health such as education and other health behaviours including smoking.
Participants have been randomly selected from 42 urban and 42 rural suburbs across Victoria. The contact details are provided by the Australian electoral roll with permission from the Australian Electoral Commission.
