The Health Fusion Team Challenge:
Looking for a relevant and innovative experience prior to graduation? The Health Fusion Team challenge will give you the chance to develop your skills in Collaborative Healthcare practice and represent your University in a prestigious National event. Our Deakin University student team won this title in 2011, and were runners up in 2012 and finalists in 2013. This year it will be an even bigger, more exciting competition.
The Health Fusion Team Challenge is a prestigious event held in Brisbane, Queensland each year with teams of Healthcare students participating from Universities across Australia for the title of Champion. It provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate expertise in collaborative practice as they work with colleagues from across the faculty to develop a management plan for a client with complex health needs and present this plan to a live audience on event day.
We are looking for a new Interprofessional team of enthusiastic, collaborative, committed, team-orientated students to represent Deakin University in 2014.
Who can take part?
Students in the latter part of their degrees from the professions of Medicine, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Social Work, Clinical Exercise Physiology and Dietetics are invited to apply. A team of six students will be selected to represent Deakin University in this event that is recognised internationally.
How will the event be run?
On the day of the event, each team will present their management plan in front of a live audience and panel of expert judges. At the completion of all presentations each team will be asked to respond to a series of questions or exercises designed to test their teamwork skills under pressure. During this process the judging panel may question them about the case or the teamwork processes they used. The team, which performs the best over the course of the day, is then awarded first place.
Each team will only include one member of a professional discipline. Each team will be given access to a challenging case study and asked to prepare a management plan for their patient over the course of the four-week preparation period. During this time, teams will meet regularly to exchange ideas, engage in research and work on their presentations.
When will the Health Fusion Team Challenge take place?
The event this year will be held on Friday the 29th of August 2014, in Brisbane, at the Queensland University of Technology. The Faculty of Health will cover the cost of your flights, accommodation and transfers from the airport to your accommodation and the competition venue.
