The School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences (SENS) now offers the Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Sciences H343 course at the Regional Community Health Hub on our Waurn Ponds Campus. This is home of the School’s exercise and sports science program and provides significant expansion of teaching and laboratory facilities for health and science students in Geelong.
Our first intake for 2013 sees 160 students enrolled in the Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Sciences.
The REACH building encompasses the latest state of the art equipment to deliver a high level teaching program to the students.
This includes new Exercise physiology, Biomechanics and Strength and conditioning spaces which provide the opportunity for students to learn about many areas of exercise and sports science, including:
- Metabolic carts for Vo2 max testing
- GPS units and heart rate to monitor game and training load within sports
- Isokinetic dynamometer to assess muscle strength and function
- Force platform to investigate running and jumping kinematics
- Specialised bikes that give individual leg power outputs and allow replication of workouts to be done on Olympic courses
- Fully fitted out gymnasium to learn the theory behind preparing athletes
- Portable hand held blood analysers that aid in individual blood profiling across a number of health and fitness markers
- Timing devices that allow for the determination of one’s acceleration, speed and reaction to tasks
- High speed cameras and software applications that give insight into the biomechanics of tasks
