Role and profile
Professor Caryl Nowson lectures in Nutrition in the School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences. She teaches at undergraduate and postgraduate level and also supervises higher degree students. Professor Nowson is a member of the Centre for Physical Activity and Nutrition Research (C-PAN) and has a specific focus on reducing risk of cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis through preventive strategies that extend throughout the lifespan.

Research Interests
Professor Caryl Nowson’s research primarily centres on nutrition related to hypertension and bone health. In addition to conducting a range of dietary and lifestyle intervention studies, she has recently focused on informing and changing policy to reduce risk of chronic disease, specifically cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis. She has a particular interest in reducing salt intake and maintaining optimal vitamin D status at population level.
