Research interests
Ms Babatsikos is currently conducting qualitative research using Grounded Theory to understand parental knowledge, attitudes and behaviours as they relate to the emerging sexuality of their children, boundary setting, and reducing the risk of sexual abuse. This research is framed by a public health approach, which calls for primary prevention approaches to child sexual abuse prevention and also advocates for a multi-level approach to prevention, addressing individual, family, group, and community factors which affect the issue. This research is also informed by social work theory and practice in dealing with the issues of child sexual abuse, including treatment perspectives as well as theoretical foundations of social justice and empowerment. This research is being conducted at James Cook University (Cairns Campus) and is estimated to be completed by December 2010.
