Welcome to the Psychiatric Health Strategic Research Centre

Psychiatric Health is a Strategic Research Centre within the School of Medicine, Deakin University. Founded in 2011, the research group has grown to be one of the largest non-institutional psychiatric research units in the country.

It is an integrated research facility that aims to increase knowledge and inform the development of new treatments for people suffering from major psychiatric disorders. The unit has a number of streams. Within the epidemiology arm, there are two principal foci: lifestyle as a risk factor for the development of psychiatric disorders, and prevention of psychiatric disorders; and secondly, medical comorbidity of mood and anxiety. An active program of research focuses on biomarkers of risk for psychiatric disorders, particularly oxidative and inflammatory markers. The unit is also actively engaged in the development of novel therapies, particularly those that target oxidative and inflammatory pathways. Other areas include internet therapies, drug safety and early intervention.

Deakin University acknowledges the traditional land owners of present campus sites.
