Role and profile
Associate Professor Seetal Dodd is involved in a broad diversity of mental health research projects. He has published over 120 articles in peer reviewed journals and is on the editorial board of several scientific journals, including being Editor in Chief of the journal Current Drug Safety. He has over 20 years of research experience, originally at the Austin Hospital, Melbourne, since 1991, and from 2001-2002 at the Victorian College of Pharmacy, Monash University. He is currently a researcher at Barwon Health, Geelong where he has been based since 2003.
Teaching responsibilities
Include undergraduate and/or postgraduate unit or course coordinator roles, and supervision of honours, masters and PhD students.Assoc Prof Dodd was the honours co-ordination for the Department of Clinical and Biomedical Sciences, University of Melbourne at Barwon Health from 2006 until 2010 and continues to supervise honours students through Deakin University. He has supervised five PhD students, two of whom have completed. Assoc Prof Dodd’s interests include; mood disorders, substance disorders (including tobacco), efficacy, safety and pharmacology of treatments used for mental health, risk factors, illness staging, neuroprotection and neuroprogression and nitrosative, oxidative and inflammatory biomarkers. Much of his research is conducted within national and international research collaborations.
Awards and prizes
1999; Postgraduate Overseas Research Experience Award- Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, University of Melbourne for travel and living expenses to conduct research at The Medical University of South Carolina. 2009; Samuel Gershon award - Presented at the International Conference on Bipolar Disorder, 25-27th June 2009, Pittsburgh.
