Role and profile
Dr Walder Acting Associate Head of School (Research) for the School of Medicine, and is Deputy Head of the Metabolic Research Unit. He is responsible for the day to day activities of the Unit, which consists of approximately 25 full-time research scientists. The MRU conducts research into metabolic diseases, particularly obesity and diabetes, as well as a program in depression and anxiety.

Research Interests
Dr Walder’s research is primarily focused on the discovery and validation of novel protein targets for metabolic diseases. This research utilises state of the art equipment and technologies, in combination with unique model systems and sample collections, to find novel proteins involved in the development of complex diseases. The novel protein targets are tested in in vitro and in vivo model systems to establish their importance as disease targets.
