Clinical service partnerships

The Centre for Innovation and Education in Aged Care (CIEAC) is working closely with key clinical service partners to disseminate the Tri-focal Model of Care in residential aged care settings, as a major aged care workforce development initiative in Australia.

The clinical service partnerships will further develop the Teaching Nursing Home initiative, building capacity in research and knowledge translation in residential aged care facilities. In particular, potential Honours, Masters and PhD students from Deakin University will be invited to undertake research related to the Tri-focal Model of Care with support from the Centre for Nursing Research - Deakin University and Monash Health Partnership and the Cabrini-Deakin Centre for Nursing Research.

Additionally, Deakin University nursing students will be offered clinical placements within each of the participating residential aged care facilities. They will be exposed to an improved learning environment characterised by clinical practices that are evidence-based and consistent with University curricula, and a positive, person-centred approach to resident care. Students will be mentored/preceptored by nurses within each facility who have completed the Tri-focal Model of Care facilitator training.

Cabrini, Monash Health and Western District Health Service are consortium members of the Tri-focal Model of Care: Teaching and Research Aged Care Services project (see Programs).
