Role and profile
Professor Trisha Dunning is the Inaugural Chair in Nursing in Deakin's School of Nursing and Midwifery. She is also Director of the Centre for Nursing and Allied Health Research, and a member of the Deakin Centre for Quality and Patient Safety research (QPS).



Research interests
My research program addresses key health priorities and government strategic areas. The prime focus is on:
Older people with diabetes and end of life care
• Effects of beliefs and attitudes (people with diabetes, their families, and health professionals) on diabetes self-care and health outcomes.
• Nursing management of people with diabetes across the care continuum, which incorporates shared diabetes care in general practice settings, acute care nursing, and managing diabetes in older people and end of life care.
• Complementary therapies and their safe use with a particular focus on diabetes
• Medicine management encompassing medicine self-management, quality use of medicines, and attitudes and beliefs about medicines and how they impact on health outcomes.

• Distinguished Life fellow Royal College of Nursing, Australia
• Inaugural International Diabetes Federation Award Plenary Lecture at the Biannual World
• Congress in Dubai 2011 for services to the IDF and diabetes care.
