Johnny Hooper

Johnny Hooper has travelled extensively in northern Australia while working in rural and remote communities as a registered Division 1 nurse. He is currently working as a haemodialysis nurse in the Northern Territory, and despite living far from tertiary education providers is able to study with Deakin University by distance education, accessing PDU learning packages from home. The flexible, online delivery of PDU studies has enabled Johnny to access study material via the internet and gain support and advice from tutors via email or phone.

Johnny is currently studying the final of four learning packages in the area of assessment and management of kidney disorders, having previously completed three others. ‘I have been able to keep updated in the relevant areas I have specialised in over the past four years, with studies in advanced clinical nursing, trauma nursing, and cardiac and ECG nursing.

The PDU learning packages have enabled Johnny to ensure his knowledge of specialty nursing areas remains current, so that he is up to date with the latest developments in his field.

‘The learning packages contain excellent up-to-date resources and materials. If I choose to apply for a postgraduate course at Deakin, my studies can be assessed for possible Credit for Prior Learning.’
