Contemporary Midwifery Practice – Care of the Perineum: Labour and Birth
Narelle Tsiros, a registered nurse whilst rotating as a student through labour and postnatal care wards, completed studies in lactation / infant feeding and contemporary midwifery practice with Deakin University’s Professional Development Unit (PDU).
Narelle found the PDU studies very useful and relevant to her current practise as a midwifery student. ‘The courses really make you research into the most recent, evidence-based data, which benefits me in my education with women and gives me confidence to discuss issues with midwives out in practice.’
For Narelle, one of the main highlights of studying with Deakin’s PDU was ‘receiving a relevant, detailed learning package on which to base my education, with relevant journal articles and web site references.’
Narelle also particularly appreciated the flexibility of the PDU studies and online delivery and web resources, which meant she could study when it suited her and fit her study around family and other commitments. Indeed, one of the main reasons Narelle chose to study with the PDU was that the subjects on offer suited her career development needs and the flexible, online delivery of the program suited the needs of her young family.
When asked if she would recommend Deakin’s Professional Development Unit to other students, Narelle gave a definitive ‘yes’.
