Is the prospect of starting university a little bit daunting? How would you like the help and support of a second or third year student to help you through your introduction to university life?
Peer mentoring programs are offered to students enrolled in courses in the Faculty of Health across all campuses. These programs aim to provide support for international and domestic students in their transition into university life. Each peer mentor group comprises: a peer mentor (second or third year student typically) and five six mentees (first year students).
Being part of the peer mentor program will help you to:
Throughout the four week program you will be invited to attend social events where you will again have the opportunity to meet other students within your faculty and your course. Your peer mentor will also attend these events.
Your allocated mentor will meet with you once a week for the first four weeks of trimester at a time mutually agreed to. Generally contact is made via Deakin email or text messages. It will be important for you to keep in contact with your peer mentor and respond to email or text messages during the program.
Your first meeting with your peer mentor will take place during orientation week following your faculty welcome. To ensure you are allocated a peer mentor, please register by the following key dates:
