Health Services Implementation Research (HSIR)
This group is led by Professor James Dunbar and is part of the Greater Green Triangle University Department of Rural Health (a collaboration between Deakin and Flinders Universities).
Health Services Implementation Research has the following research programs with a strong focus on diabetes prevention and self-management.
- Diabetes prevention
Programs include: the National Health and Medical Research Centre (NHMRC) cost-effectiveness study of the $18m Vic program Life! Taking Action on Diabetes, with an NHMRC Partnership Grant and an NHMRC Project Grant pending.
- Collaborative care
The TrueBlue project continued the development and evaluation of a system of primary care for patients with coronary heart disease and or type two diabetes and co-morbid depression. The project, which concluded in June 2010 was a collaboration between beyondblue, the National Depression Initiative, the Victorian Department of Human Services, the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing, the Department of Health South Australia and the Northern Rivers University Department of Rural Health.
- Multi-centre studies on diabetes
The Australasian Peers for Progress in Diabetes Program with Monash University.
- The Centre of Excellence for Research in Building Quality, Governance, Performance and Sustainability in Primary Health Care
This Centre of Excellence will improve the quality and safety of General Practices around Australia. The Centre will be based in Warrnambool, Victoria and is a partnership between the GGT UDRH and the Universities of Queensland and New South Wales. The Centre will undertake research into building improved quality, governance, performance and sustainability in a primary health care setting. It will identify best practice quality and safety procedures and how these can be best implemented in a general practice setting. The project will employ a postdoctoral fellow and PhD researcher with recruitment commencing in March 2011.
