Confirmation
The confirmation process is a procedure designed to monitor the progress of HDR students. A student’s candidature will be provisional until they have completed this process. It is a compulsory requirement that all Master by Research and Doctor of Philosophy candidates need to undertake a Confirmation/Review of Candidature as follows:
- Master candidates: within the first 6 months of full-time or 12 months of part-time study;
- PhD candidates: within the first year of full-time or within the first 18 months of part-time study;
The confirmation process provides an opportunity for the candidate to submit and obtain recommendations on a plan for the structure of their research program, describe the investigative program and identify the range of expertise necessary to complete the research. The process should be viewed by students as a good opportunity to receive some feedback regarding their literature review and research proposal. Specifically, the process involves two main components:
- Submission of a literature review (around 6,000 to 10,000 words)
- Presentation of your literature review and proposed research in the HDR colloquia.
