Professor Trish DunningWelcome to the Deakin-Barwon Health School of Nursing Partnership, a partnership that commenced in February 2007.


Barwon Health is Victoria’s largest regional health service located in Geelong, approximately an hour from Melbourne.  It is one of the most comprehensive service providers in Victoria offering services across the full spectrum of health care.

Facilities offered by Barwon Health include:

  • Acute services - Geelong Hospital
  • Sub-acute services (inpatient and community rehabilitation) – The McKellar Centre
  • Two residential aged care facilities
  • 16 community based sites, providing mental health, rehabilitation and general care

The Barwon South Western Region is a dynamic regional hub of excellence in clinical care and has a strong clinical and research partnership with Deakin University, including the Faculty of Health, Medicine, Nursing and Behavioural Sciences.  This partnership enables the Deakin-Barwon Health collaboration to lead research and education across multiple sites and in all health disciplines. A key partnership initiative is the position of Chair in Nursing, who manages the Deakin-Barwon Health Centre for Nursing and Allied Health Research, The Centre was developed to conduct research and provide research training and support for clinical and academic staff in the Barwon South West region.

Barwon Health also has a range of other partnerships within the region with local business and services.
