Background

The School of Nursing developed the Eastern Health and Deakin University partnership model in 1999 at Box Hill Hospital. This initiative, which has expanded across Eastern Health sites, is committed to excellence in teaching and learning, and translational research to improve clinical practice and patient health outcomes.

Research focus

The primary research focus of the Eastern Health /Deakin University partnership is on quality care and improving patient outcomes across acute, aged and community care settings. Programs of research are conducted in safety and risk management and the implementation of research findings into practice. The program also aims to develop and integrate knowledge on healthcare service delivery, workforce design and evidence-based clinical decision making, as well as strengthen research infrastructure with local/national/ international collaborations that contribute to knowledge development and translation. The Unit offers a strong Honours, Masters and Doctoral research program to nursing candidates, with supervision currently offered in the areas of oncology, palliative care, CVD, clinical decision making, emergency and critical care, and peri-ops.
