Role and profile
Catherine has a particular interest in the economics of obesity. She is involved in the economic evaluation of both treatment (in particular obesity surgery) and prevention interventions, for example the four-country Obesity Prevention in Communities Project. She is also undertaking a series of studies to quantify the economic impacts of obesity. She is analysing healthcare utilisation and costs for the obese relative to the general population and the impact of intentional weight loss. She is also involved in two studies which will estimate the utility-based quality of life impacts of overweight and obesity for adolescents and adults respectively.

During 2010, Catherine is also undertaking cost-effectiveness evaluations relating to the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program and a smoking cessation trial.

Prior to joining Deakin Health Economics Catherine worked for many years managing and evaluating international aid projects in the health sector. She has also worked for Access Economics.
