Higher Education Research Group

Office for Learning and Teaching (OLT) Awards

(Formerly ALTC Awards)

Deakin University's Higher Education Research Group provides institutional leadership for the recognition and reward of teaching excellence for national awards.

Nominees for OLT Excellence, Citation and other Awards are selected by a panel of senior teaching and learning staff from a pool which includes nominations from Associate Deans (Teaching and Learning), Associate Heads of School (Teaching and Learning), Directors of Divisions and other senior staff across the university. The nominee pool comprises academic and professional staff who have demonstrated sustained excellence and who have generally received other forms of institutional recognition for their programs or teaching.

Institutional nominees receive significant support and assistance to develop their applications. Each nominee has a dedicated mentor to provide guidance about the structure of the application, the type and form of evidence that can be used to support claims and to provide collegiate support in the general development process. An anonymous peer review process is also provided to nominees by Deakin staff who are former national award winners.

The Higher Education Research Group adopts a proactive approach to identification of future candidates and conducts preliminary discussions to ensure that appropriate evidence and evaluation processes are in place to ensure that future applications are of the highest standard.
