Purpose

The central purpose of the Higher Education Research Group (HERG) is to provide a mechanism for staff to participate and collaborate in research, scholarship and consultancy in the field of higher education, including university teaching and learning.

Members of HERG are higher education researchers and scholars with varying levels of expertise in:

  • winning competitive and other grants;
  • undertaking higher education research;
  • undertaking scholarship in teaching and learning;
  • and publishing in a range of publications including international peer-reviewed journals.

HERG activities provide support and development opportunities for staff at all stages of their research career. Activities and events include:

  • An International Visiting Scholar Program
  • An Individual Mentoring Program
  • An Intensive program for new higher education researchers
  • A Grant Assistance Program
  • The HERG Colloquia SeriesInformation sharing; and
  • Collaborative projects.

HERG is committed to contributing actively to Deakin's strategic goal of becoming a national leader in teaching and learning and to contributing to national conversations and debates related to higher education broadly.
