Muscle Health

The research conducted within this program focuses on how exercise and nutrition influences muscle health across the lifespan. Specifically, we are interested in how exercise and nutrition plays a role in the prevention and management of muscle wasting, regeneration and metabolism.

Investigations in muscle are diverse and include skeletal, cardiac, diaphragm and smooth muscle. The objectives are to:

  • identify molecular targets which regulate muscle adaptations, and
  • develop therapeutic strategies and identify pharmacological targets to reduce muscle wasting

Expertise within the research team spans exercise physiology, biochemistry and molecular biology through to applied and clinical aspects of muscle health.
