All participants in the STRONG study will join one of our research gyms to complete two (2) group strength training sessions per week for 6 months. The groups will be of 4-12 people and all will be involved in the STRONG study. These sessions are supervised by one of our trainers who have undergone specific training for the prescription and supervision of strength training among people who have type 2 diabetes.
All participants will receive five (5) assessments. These are performed at baseline (before you begin the strength training), at month 2, month 4, month 6 and then a further 6 month's later (month 12) to see the maintenance of your behaviour. During these assessments, the trainers will test your strength, flexibility, functionality and blood pressure. You will also be asked to have a blood test (for HbA1c) at baseline, month 6 and month12 which we will pay for. These tests will enable us to see the benefits of your training. You will also receive the results at the completion of your STRONG study journey to see how far you have come.
Please note: Thank you for your interest in this study. We are no longer taking new applications as all positions and groups are full.
