Role and Profile Dr Timperio is a Senior Research Fellow in the School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences. She currently holds a VicHealth Public Health Research Fellowship (until end 2012). Dr Timperio is an active researcher with a program of work related to understanding influences on physical activity behaviour and weight status.
Teaching Responsibilities Supervises 2 PhD students
Research Interests Dr Timperio’s research is focused on understanding the range of influences on physical activity, eating behaviours and weight status among children and adolescents, particularly over critical life transition periods (childhood to adolescence, adolescence to young adulthood). She is involved in several longitudinal studies with children, adolescents and adults that examine individual, social and environmental influences on behaviour. Dr Timperio’s other research interests include: physical activity measurement; measurement of the neighbourhood food and physical activity environments; the behavioural epidemiology of weight control; and evaluation of health promotion and public health interventions.

Dr Timperio served on the Executive Committee of the International Society of Behavioural Nutrition and Physical Activity (2006-2008).

Dr Timperio regularly reviews manuscripts for more than 15 international journals. She also regularly reviews research applications for national and international funding bodies, including the ARC, NHMRC, National Heart Foundation and Prevention Programme of ZonMw (The Netherlands).
