| Role and Profile | Cathy Mihalopoulos is a senior health economist with the Health Economics Unit in the School of Health and Social Development. She has dual qualifications in economics and psychology and she is currently employed on an NH&MRC capacity building grant in economic evaluation. The purpose of this grant is to develop the capacity of Australian economic evaluators to become internationally competitive and develop the skills to carry out cutting edge research within the field of economic evaluation. Her main research interest is the economic evaluation of mental health in an Australian context. | |
| Research Interests |
Cathy’s research interests lie mainly in the economic evaluation of mental health care and interventions within an Australian context. This includes both undertaking full economic evaluations of services and interventions as well as focusing on specific methodological issues for economic evaluation of mental health care. For example, she has an advisory role in an NH&MRC funded project which is developing a preference based health related quality of life measure specifically for mental health problems She has considerable experience in the economics of stroke care where she was instrumental in developing the Model of Resource Utilisation Costs and Outcomes (MORUCOS) for the National Stroke Foundation and has also worked in the assessment of new health technologies (particularly MRI). Cathy has had experience conducting health program evaluation and research, particularly in the field of mental health. |
