Deakin Family Options 2010 - 2011

Are you or somebody you know suffering from depression, anxiety, or drug & alcohol problems?

In collaboration with beyondblue: the national depression initiative, Drummond Street Relationships Centre, and JIGSAW Young Persons Mental Health Service, a team of psychologists and psychology registrars at Deakin University are currently offering free psychological services to persons aged 12 to 26 AND/ OR families of persons aged 12 to 26 who are suffering from depression, anxiety, or drug & alcohol problems.

The co-occurrence of anxiety, depression and substance abuse in youth represents a significant health problem, impacting on family, social and educational functioning. It has been estimated that approximately one in five adolescents suffer depressive symptoms sufficient to result in impairments to their intellectual and social development. Typically adolescent depression and anxiety co-occur with high rates of alcohol and drug use.

The Deakin Family Options Program is a FREE service offered to young persons aged 12 to 26 and/ or families of young persons aged 12 to 26. Research suggests that psychological treatments can help to alleviate symptoms associated with depression, anxiety, and alcohol or substance misuse. The general rule is, some form of treatment is more often better than no treatment at all!
